Description: AGI (Adventure Game Interpreter) is the adventure game engine Sierra on-lines early graphic adventure games used (1984-1989). With the release of King's Quest 1, it introduced the gaming world to the concept of a 3D graphical adventure game, where the player could move a character around the screen, behind, in front of and over objects. Other commands could be typed in, just like a text adventure. A number of other games that used AGI were released, such as Space Quest 1 & 2, Police Quest 1 and Leisure Suit Larry 1... all of which became instant classics.

The graphics were rather blocky, using a 160x168 resolution for the main screen - which is streched up to 320x200 including the commandline and tool bars - and 16 colours only. However, this doesn't take away from the adventure gaming enjoyment and it does mean that its easier for us to make our own games with in both effort, skill and download sizes.

Update #2: Reorganized this Project page to include Screenshots, Editors, Downloads and Links. Khadgar's tutorial is progressing nicely. I've started on a EH total conversion of Leisure Suit Larry with as main goal just to get a hang of AGI games. As a side effect it also generates a lot of material in the form of Views and Pictures that can be used in more serious/orginal EH games. The conversion of the Views is almost done (95% ex. those to do with Pictures) working on new background Pictures now.

Update #1: Khadgar has started on a beginners guide to AGI/SCI which should greatly help along this project to make it possible to create EH games in the style of "Space Quest", "Kings Quest" or "Leisure Suit Larry". *pokes Khadgar to get a move on;)* There are various guides online already however - anyone interested in joining this project is advised to check out http://www.adventurecollective.com/articles/feature-agi-1.htm which has a good guide on the coding part (Anyone that can do php/asp can do this… its pretty simple.) http://web.archive.org/web/19990129050822/http://www.ozemail.com.au/~mozmccoy/ and the sites of the AGIStudio Editor, which includes guides as well: http://www.agidev.com/ and http://members.ozemail.com.au/~ptrkelly/agi/agistudio.html.

Update #0: With the goal to make at least one AGI adventure game, in the style of the old Sierra Classics like “Leisure Suit Larry”, “Space Quest” or “Police Quest”. At the suggestion of MAJ CrazyR2 I now include the better SCI games too, he said he’d consider making an SCI/AGI editing IWATS, I do hope he does [nudge, nudge]. In principle these games are so small in download that they compare to XvT or XWA battles in size, think about it: a compendium of player made EH-Adventure games!:) If you got any experience in creating such games, please contact me.
