"Innuendo, my contendo"

Welcome to the sixty-fifth public report since I became Science Officer, actually more then incredibly late… (bad SCO *slap slap* BAAAD SCO) Onwards to the news:

Science Office News:

  1. Since the last report a whole lot has been done on Imperial Alliance with as primary difference the upgrading of our existing craft models in both model and textures. However, it seems that effort was “wasted” because…
  2. We received a large package of high-polygon models for use in Imperial Alliance from Eville Jedi, who made them for his Home Worlds mod, “Warlords”. However, these need a lot of work in the way of texturing (again) and porting to IA… But on at least some of the craft we’ve been saved from such an effort because…
  3. The “other” SW mod of Freespace 2 (the “Star Wars Conversion”) has offered to join forces and give us the models they already done (“basically a melee selection of craft”- Galemp). We have not received these yet however.
  4. Besides models we (well, mostly Den (well, just Den)) fixed errors in the game and added features, like now being able to run really with loads of craft and Flight Groups (I got a mission in which 94 Gunboats tackle 94 Y-Wings now… That’s twice what XWA can do.)
  5. On other BIG things: we’ve started testing on having planetoids in-game, meaning pieces of rock 10s of kilometers across – to do some serious hunting around on. We also added 15 different types of high-poly asteroids for the rest of the “meteor shower” scenes.
  6. On OTHER big things: we’ve got a poll running on which officer shall run your briefings in the MP demo: http://mb.emperorshammer.net/viewtopic.php?t=3156
  7. We also managed to upgrade and replace all backdrops (planets, nebula, stars...) for 512x512 versions, including 16 million color options for those with heavier PCs, and did the same to our current craft textures.

Science Office Status:

CA:SCO: Fleet Admiral Darkhill has made numerous bug fixes and improvements to the code of IA and has made a lot of adjustments to existing craft and new craft.. He still da man:)

SCOA: CPT Timmay has only been posting on the forum now and then, he’s being demoted to IGOR. If you feel you got what it takes to become SCOA, send an application to me, cc-ing Den.

Command Staff Objectives:

Continued patch development and platform resource: Actually got ACEDXF working again thanks to DAngalus, but focused on Imperial Alliance.

Get a release candidate version of Imperial Alliance released: Beta phase running, upgrading resolutions, checking Multi Player.

Upgrade and add to the Fleet Manual: None.

Science Office Projects:

Imperial Alliance: With the release of the freely available source code of FS2, we have started on making a Star Wars game out of it. We can freely distribute a finished game as long as we have all our own data files (graphics, sounds, models etc). Most other projects are currently on hold while we get this thing done some more.
